Something Tells (with Narration)

from The Willow Leaf - Poem Cycle by Bernard Herrmann

/

about

Part of a three-part "Poem Cycle" by Bernard Herrmann and based upon David Ross' poem "Something Tells", this beautiful 1934 "Melodram" is a joyful celebration of Spring.

This rare work not heard in over 80 years is lovingly captured by the Hollywood Studio Orchestra's performance and the eloquent reading by author Steven C. Smith.

lyrics

Something Tells
by David Ross

There is something tells a tree
To wave a green sombrero,
Plumed with swallows
And ride a Pony-hill to the sun.

There is something tells a butterfly
to leave the nunnery of its cocoon
And go gypsying in colored dress
When April stirs a fiddle in a willow tree.

There is something tells the feet of goats
to rattle every hilltop like a drum.
And kick the silver flagon
from the shoulders of the grass.
